Last Tuesday was our first "real" date night. We did dinner and a movie in Madison. I've been wanting to try
Local 463 (
Urbanspoon) after the recommendation of Patrick's bosses and then he went to Walker's one day last week, so that solidified our decision.
We started with the tamales. They lived up to their hype! The tamales were spicy, the corn sauce cooled it off and the pico de gallo tasted so
fresh. This, was followed up by salads. Patrick tried The House: chopped iceberg and romaine, sweet peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, red onion, and Alabama goat cheese crumbles in a lemon-Dijon vinaigrette. It looked good, but I am not a fan a raw red onion, so I skipped trying it. I went with the 463 Caesar romaine lettuce and garlic croutons tossed in a basil-Caesar dressing. YUM! I love trying different Caesar salads (Restaurant Tyler's is good too) and the basil-Caesar dressing was delicious. It was light and so, so
flavorful. It had just enough Parmesan to accent the flavor, but not enough to be overkill.

Dinner...where to begin. I went with the Southern Pecan Braised Short Ribs in a natural au jus with mashed potatoes, broccolini, and onion slivers. The short ribs had great flavor and they were so tender that they fell apart. You could really taste the hint of Lazy Magnolia's Southern Pecan (a great beer too) and the beef was so
rich, that I couldn't come close to finishing it. The potatoes were good, but nothing really special. The broccolini was sautéed in olive oil with garlic and was so
tasty. It was a simple, delicious addition. The onion slivers were crispy and light. Patrick had planned to go with the Redfish, but they had a Grouper special. It was served with the corn pudding and the bite I had was delicious. I joked that I would totally eat that on Fridays during Lent. I obviously can't fully review his over my one bite, but I will say there was not a morsel left on his plate.
Local 463 was so, so good. If we do repeat a date night dinner, I want it to be here! They had a sea scallop dish that looked (and smelled) really great.
I think this is the place where my new hairdresser's husband is the chef. I'll have to tell her you liked it the next time I go.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan! We can't buy it around here, but the Lazy Magnolia folks show up for Gainesville's semi annual beer fest.
